Our Mission
National Cancer Initiative
The goal of APAMSA’s National Cancer Initiative is to raise awareness of common cancers that impact Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) populations. We aim to provide educational resources and facilitate discussions that empower individuals to take steps towards cancer prevention and early detection.
Questions? Contact the Cancer Initiative Director, Rachel Kim, at cancer@apamsa.org.
1. Research the latest scientific and public health articles on AANHPI-related cancers, which we showcase in APAMSA’s monthly newsletter.
2. Create opportunities to engage pre-health and medical students in cancer education and screening.
3. Encourage all chapters to complete at least one cancer-related educational or screening session for their local community.
4. Work towards establishing culturally sensitive outreach programs and partnerships to address disparities in cancer care.

Hosting a skin cancer screening event is a powerful way to raise awareness, provide early detection, and educate your community about skin cancer prevention. Our comprehensive toolkit will guide you through every step of the process. If you are interested in hosting a screening event in your area, please contact cancer@apamsa.org to get started!
We are currently working to collaborate with a national partner to establish a Cancer Screening and Education Grant Application for our APAMSA members. For now, please visit the Community Outreach Initiative page for information on how to apply for the Community Outreach Grant.
