Joey Hua-Phan, LGBTQIA+ Director

Joey Hua-Phan is a first-year medical student at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Born in Boston, MA, he was raised by first-generation Vietnamese immigrants. He graduated from Williams College in 2022 with a B.A. in Chemistry and spent his gap years engaged in health equity research, advocacy, and volunteering at LGBTQ+ centers.

His past endeavors included working as a research assistant for the All of Us Research Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he also helped establish a health equity committee. Additionally, he contributed to LGBTQ+ health research at Fenway Health Institute.

At Pritzker, he is actively involved in advocacy and community initiatives. He serves as Vice President of APAMSA, co-chair of OUTPatient (the LGBTQ+ medical student group), co-chair of FLIMed (the first-generation, low-income medical student group), and is a member of the Chicago Trans Health Initiative. As the LGBTQIA+ Director for APAMSA, he is committed to advancing health equity and advocating for intersectional identities within the AANHPI community.
