Alexander Le, Health Affairs VP

National Board

Howdy! I’m a MD/MPH student at the Texas A&M School of Medicine. I attended the University of Houston for undergrad, where I first became involved with service organizations. I’m passionate about eliminating AANHPI health disparities, particularly through advocacy, policy, and collective care. As a board member for the Vietnamese Culture and Science Association in Houston, I’ve organized health fairs and vaccine clinics throughout the pandemic to Vietnamese and AANHPI community members. In APAMSA, I’ve previously been the president of my local chapter, and served as Community Outreach Director for 2 years. I hope to pursue Internal Medicine and ultimately Infectious Disease, integrating medicine into a public health career that addresses the structural inequities of our healthcare system. Outside of school, I enjoy listening to podcasts at 2x speed, watching D&D playthroughs, singing, photography, and finishing my way through the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Yichen (Wendy) Fan, External Affairs VP

National Board

Hello! My name is Wendy and I am a MS2 at Oregon Health & Science University. I was born in Shanghai, China, and moved to Portland when I was 9. I’m passionate about the AANHPI community and all of our diverse cultures, and hope to grow as a team this year. In my free time, I enjoy watching sports, playing badminton, piano, and taking long walks when it’s not pouring out in the Pacific Northwest.

Ashley Tam, Communications VP

National Board

Hi! I’m Ashley and I’m a medical student at the Oregon Health and Science University. I went to Cornell University for undergrad and am back in Portland, Oregon for medical school where I grew up! I joined APAMSA during my first year of medical school to find community and continue embracing and sharing my Asian identity with others. I started my local chapter’s newsletter and later became the National Conference Communications Director for our 2023 National Conference. I was Social Media Director last year and am happy to be serving as this year’s Communications VP. My time as a member of APAMSA has always been intertwined with creativity and innovation and I’m excited to bring more of that this year. When not studying, I love to bake, play Genshin Impact, browse bookstores, spend time with my family, and hang out with my new shiba puppy, Goji (like the berry!).

Ker-Cheng Chen, Region II Director

National Board

Hi APAMSA family! My name is KerCheng Chen (or KC and I am an MS3 at the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. I was born and raised in Elmhurst, Queens (where there is a large AANPHI community) and attended college at UPenn where I received a B.S. in Biology. Before entering medical school, I worked as a clinical research coordinator in sleep medicine. Throughout my life, the AANHPI community played an integral role in my academic, professional, and personal growth, shaping my values and passions. I am strongly committed to play an active role in it. I served as
APAMSA’s Communications Vice President and Co-Social Media Director, and this year, I am excited to serve as your Region II Director! Outside of school, I enjoy eating good food, photographing friends, and aspiring to become a full-time plant mom.

Victoria Shi, President

National Board

Hi! My name is Victoria Shi and I am a rising M4 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. This past year, I have been completing a yearlong research fellowship in dermatology at Northwestern.

I grew up in Pennsylvania before moving to the suburbs of New Jersey, and my hometown was not very diverse. Seeking a stronger AANHPI community, I first joined APAMSA in 2018. Both my local and national APAMSA families have given me such a strong sense of community. I have served as a local chapter president, Region VI director, alumni co-director, strategy vice president, and now national president. Being able to uplift and support the AANHPI community has been one of the greatest joys of my medical school career!

This year, I’m excited to foster connections between local APAMSA chapters, amplify the voices of the underrepresented AANHPI populations, promote education and health literacy, and spearhead AANHPI research initiatives.

Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, nature, exploring the food scene in cities, and a newfound love of cooking/baking!

Lyndon Bui, Region VII Co-Director

National Board

Hello again! My name is Lyndon Bui, MS3 at UofA Phoenix. I am originally from Orange, CA and I am excited to continue working with the wonderful chapters in Region VII and beyond. I have been passionate about AANHPI culture, outreach, and community conditions since I began college and it is a privilege to continue to learn more and collaborate on events with you all! Outside of APAMSA, my hobbies include spikeball, pickleball, ping pong, cooking, eating, and spontaneous hang outs:) I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve as Regional Director and look forward to creating fun memories with you all!

Vivian Hoang, Region VI Co-Director

National Board

Hello, everyone! I am a second-year at Kansas City University (KCU) – Joplin. I was born and raised in Wichita, KS. I received my B.S. from Newman University in Wichita and my M.S. at KCU. I am honored to be part of APAMSA, and to be able to work with all of you to create a change in healthcare that will better the AANHPI community and beyond. In my free time, I like to dabble in picking up new skills (ex: learning ASL, ukulele, roller-skating, rock-climbing, etc.)!

Jerry Yin, Region IX Co-Director

National Board

Hey! My name is Jerry Yin, and I am a second year medical student at McGovern Medical School in Houston, Texas. I was born in Beijing, China, moved to Sugar Land, Texas as a young boy, and then attended UC Berkeley where I studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I’m the outgoing chapter president at UT Houston where I initiated a campus-wide Lunar New Year celebration this year by partnering with our Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and I hope to bring something similar to other chapters in Region IX as one of its directors. My medical interests include bridging the gap between Eastern and Western medicine for first and second generation immigrants, particularly for the internationally adopted population. As a result, I’m currently interested in Med-Peds and potentially a cardiology fellowship. Outside of APAMSA, I enjoy singing and beatboxing for the McGovern Skeletones and Baylor Docappella, co-running the McGovern gaming discord server, and playing basketball, spikeball, and ultimate frisbee with my friends.

Stephen Kwong, Region IX Co-Director

National Board

Hey y’all, I’m Stephen Kwong, a second year
medical student at Texas A&M University School of Medicine. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and got my B.S. in Neurobiology at the University of California, Davis. Growing up among such a large AANHPI population has not only given me a strong appreciation for the richly diverse cultures in our community, but has also shown me the many health challenges we face together. It has always been a dream of mine to do my part in helping to connect US health policy and practice with the multitude of needs our diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives bring. When I’m not working you can find me cooking, baking, reading sci-fi or fantasy novels, scuba diving, or playing way too many videogames.
