Take a look at our Past Cancer Initiative Events and Awareness Campaigns:

Washington University in St. Louis and St. Louis University 2015

WUSM and SLU APAMSA collaborated on a Korean health fair a couple of weekends ago. We had stations like blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, BMI, visual acuity, and physician consults. Some new ideas we implemented this year include a social work station, cancer education station, and exit surveys to see how we can improve our future health screenings. We also invited a certified Healthcare Application Counselor from a local organization, the International Institute of St. Louis, to volunteer at our fair and help attendees sign up for the insurance marketplace (especially since Korean-Americans have one of highest uninsurance rates).

Cancer Initiative Challenge 2013:

Cancer patients face difficulties and challenges from the moment they are diagnosed. There are numerous problems to be solved in the processes of cancer detection, cancer treatment, and cancer survivorship follow-up. The Asian American population in particular has a special burden, as cancer is the number one leading cause of death in Asian American women.

National APAMSA Cancer Initiative hosted a challenge to develop solutions for these problems related to cancer. This competition is open to premedical, medical, and other healthcare students, so long as the applicant belongs to an APAMSA chapter.

Congratulations to the following winners of the Cancer Initiative Challenge 2013:
