The first Region IV-South conference was held at Tulane University School
of Medicine on Feb, 20th, 2016. The Region Directors envisioned a
conference tackling the theme “Bridging Two Worlds” where we focused
on expanding the knowledge and thinking of our attendees with regard to
medicine and the cultural facets of particular regions in the United States
in
order to further their knowledge concerning topics of importance to
physicians and healthcare workers. To meet this end, the Regional
conference hosted speakers from Tulane and LSU SOM institutions. Some
topics covered were comparing Eastern/Western medicine, Cultural issues
in healthcare, personal clinical experiences abroad, and how law, art, and
mental health are important in medicine today. The conference also had a
pre-medical panel consisting of current Tulane and LSU students in order
to answer questions from the undergraduate students in attendance. The
conference was a success and we look forward to future conference that
will be held in Region IV-South of APAMSA in the future.
